Regulatory/Standards
Utilities Forecast Standards While Deployment Occurs
Clarity is the first casualty as many different bodies all attempt to carve out best practices for regulatory standards relating to the emerging Smart Grid. The new Smart Grid creates a problem of dynamic complexity, not simple or linear complexity for organizations confronting the standards issue. As new features or enablements arise out of this smarter grid, a new problem, risk, or unforeseen opportunity arises. Causality is extremely hard to project because the story of the Smart Grid will take many years to unfold.
This situation is further compounded by the simple fact that today, there is no industry-wide, agreed upon definition of just what the Smart Grid is, let alone the true nature of Smart Grid Security.
